Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday

Today is Daddy's 47th birthday. We are leaving this morning for Charlesvoix to visit Aunt Muggins and then on the Muskegon to camp for a few days.

Daddy doesn't get much time off so we are all very excited to embark on our adventure.
Oh Daddy, we love you so.

Nice Work If You Can Get It

Miss Mimi hatched a plan.

Last week we wandered into a tiny toy store while we were running errands.
In this toy store was a toy version of baby Zelda.

When we have been traveling this summer Mimi wept nightly for Baby Zelda(the real dog).
Her thought was that she would have this Zelda by proxy that could join her on her out of town adventures.

This fake Zelda was twenty dollars and I explained to her that she would have to earn the money to buy her.

With much spunk and sticktoitiveness she cleaned up after Zelda in the yard, did extra chores around the house and this morning she earned her last three dollars washing Daddy's car.

The last picture is of Mimi with the real Zelda on a well deserved break from toiling.
Next to her in the hammock is a cardboard dog bed she made. The bed is lined in fancy fabric and has a handmade pillow.

Jie Jie took her to the toy store where she made her purchase of the faux Baby Zelda.

The very first shot is of Mimi parking her car in the "parking garage" with her new baby in tow.

Celebrity lullaby

Mimi has had a rough few days in the sleep department.
She has never been a very consistent sleeper but now she awakes in terror and carries on complete conversations with no memory of it the next morning.

She has been working on an evening gown and these conversation filled nightmares seem to be about fashions that she has designed that someone in her dream can't seem to get right.

One night it was all thrashing and kicking," my dress, I can't sew my dress like that".
She drifted asleep for 30 minutes and then, with a start, popped up and screamed "SKIRT!"

I think she may need a celebrity lullaby.

Soul sisters

Yesterday we spent the afternoon with several of Mimi's "sisters" and their families.

Shannon and Jim opened their lovely home to us. The girls played on their play structure, ate tons of goodies and went down a massive water slide about 7,000 times.

The parents reminisced about our trip to China and reveled in the many similarities our girls shared with one another.

It is so very hard to believe that it has been five years since we brought these babies home.

We have agreed to attempt to get the girls together 3 times a year.
The difficult part of these celebrations is that when they get together it is as if they have never met.Within an hour or so they find their common ground and relax.

Hopefully, with more frequent meetings and with their ages, we can create a lifelong relationship.

The most emotional point is when we all look at these beautiful, strong, capable young women and reaffirm how lucky we are to be a family.
