The Great Snowflake competition

I am a self proclaimed paper nerd.
I decided to decorate the mantel with simple plain paper snowflakes.
I gave Mimi and Terry scissors and told them to get a cuttin.

Little did I know that Terry would take snowflake cutting to an all new art. He diligently cuts and cuts until there is a mere tiny skeleton of paper and once unfolded it is a delicate piece of artwork.

Mimi and are trying to catch up with the master. We have cut a lot of snowflakes.

More Christmas cookie day

Aunt Julie, Queen of Christmas cookies

Over the weekend, Mimi was invited next door to Aunt Julie's for Christmas cookie making.

The official date was to begin at one pm.

Mimi woke up at 7:00 am and began to ask how long until she could go to Aunt Julie's.

Mimi left for Aunt Julie's at 12:30, with my camera and came home at about 5:00.

They did both stop by briefly to pick up the sled for some outside play and a break from gingerbread.

Mimi was delivered home, with a giant tray of treats and some pictures for me of the days events.

It all looks quite lovely.

Our next Christmas favorite

Mimi loves the Pee Wee Christmas special. This incredible show was also one of Jie Jie's growing up.

What other variety show can have guests like Oprah, Charo, Frankie and Annette and Grace Jones? Not to mention Dinah Shore and KD Lang?

Christmas movies-Mimi

This is one of Mimi's favorite Christmas shows.

She first saw it on Pee Wee's Christmas special... another family fave.

Grampy is Betty Boops grandpa, and the coolest guy in town.

Christmas movies

Jie Jie and I were recently discussing our top ten films of all time.

This movie is definitely in our top twenty and I think for Jie Jie typifies Christmas.
Let's face it, this is Judy at her best, and none can sob like Miss Margaret Obrien.
I have watched this movie about 3,000 times and I still weep during this scene.

The big bang theory

As I have said before, we are in the midst of growing Mimi's hair long.
I snapped these pictures of her cutting snowflakes.

I miss seeing her beautiful face.

Decking the halls part 2 3 and4

We are still in the throws of decorating.

I know that some people have had their homes festooned and glittered since Thanksgiving.
I am a bit behind.

Mimi and I decorated her dollhouse(It was Jie Jie's). We have tiny ornaments and lights. This year we sprayed that canned snow all over it. I am pretty sure this stuff is toxic for the environment. But it made a white dollhouse Christmas.

I am known to one and all as the light Nazi. I send Terry out in bitter temperatures with very specific instructions on how the lights should drape and twirl.

This year Terry took the task into his own hands and decorated one solitary tree. It is so lovely, all I can think is that I want all of the trees done just like this.

Terry's approach is much more tasteful.

Mimi and the bob

Mimi has had this fabulous signature, 1920's louise brooks style bob.
She has been going to her stylist Jeph for this haircut forever.

Mimi has decided that she wants long hair. In the style of any 5 year old she would like this long hair immediately.
For Halloween, she wanted to be Hannah Montana(gasp), with a long blond wig.I made a compromise.
I told her that she could be Princess Jasmine and have a pretend ponytail.

I found a five dollar long black ponytail at the local beauty supply and she was thrilled.

She wanted to wear it all of the time. After long discussions about her beautiful hair and how she was lovely just the way she was blah blah blah, she came up with her own compromise. The nightgown.

She wears it as hair and she sways her long locks to and fro. I love this hair .

Christmas movies

I was thinking about my unconventional approach to Christmas movies.

My sisters and I were raised with old hollywood, so we choose different movies to savor the holiday time.

One of our favorite holiday movies was "Auntie Mame".

It really only has one Christmas scene, but it is such a great movie, we think of it as one of our holiday classics.
I found this clip on you tube and although the song is "hannah montana"(not fond of).
This young lady does a good job at capturing the essence of Mame.
Mimi loves it because it features Mame and Hannah Montana...Shish

Tiny trees and baby zelda

Every year at this time, we go to our local tree lot to choose our tree. We get a tiny tree for Mimi, and a large family tree.

This year we purchased a tiny tree for Annabel as well.Annabel is jewish, so her tree is decked out in gelt and stars.

Mimi was from school with a cold yesterday, so she and I decorated the tiny tree and watched the nutcracker on tv, it was lovely.

Mimi then took a zillion pictures of Zelda.

The Nutcracker Suite

Mimi dances at Geiger Ballet school. Every year the ballet company puts on a production of the Nutcracker. This year I took Mimi and Annabel.
Every year when we go, Mimi and Annabel shop for a little trinket from the performance. The little Nutcracker shop is a fund raiser for the ballet company.
Last year they picked out delicate little bracelets, the year before, tiny little tiaras. This year they chose the most garish nutcracker. He resembles Ziegfreid and Roy or perhaps Neil Diamond at Christmas time.

I am so glad that the money is going to a worthy cause.

Mimi was thrilled to see her teacher and fellow classmates up on the stage.
Next year, Mimi will be eligible to audition. Mimi is totally against this, she says she is afraid of performing in front of millions of people.

Being the stage mother that I am, I am hoping these thoughts will change.

A Visit with Santa

Yesterday, I picked Mimi and Annabel up from school and went right to The Henry Ford to see Santa.

We had a small wait, the girls were anxious and a bit nervous.
Santa at the Henry Ford is quite an amazing old elf.

The girls reluctantly approached his knee and he told them that they had grown and he knew that they needed to be more proficient at brushing their teeth. He demonstrated a method for tooth brushing that is very thorough.

Then Santa told them both that he knew that they were throwing their clothes on the floor and that needed to take care of their toys and dirty laundry.

The girls told their Christmas list: Bop it and these flip flop like slippers that let you skate on the floor(as seen on tv).
I explained to Santa that they were best friends.
Santa looked at me earnestly and said"I know that". He went on to tell the girls that best friends can share and there was no need for them to have identical toys.

Who is this guy?

Material Girl.

Ever since Mimi was a baby she had a penchant for wearing and carrying a ton of things. She would have 3 or 4 bags, several different layers of clothing and bling bling bling.

At five she is no different . I find this picture so interesting, mainly because she is very much like a pop star from the eighties. Mimi has never seen Madonna but she sure has her sensiblity.

I love Rock and Roll

Mimi and Elijah love the game rock band. They play 2 songs, The Ramones"Blitzkrieg Bop" and "Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi. I hear these songs many times in a one hour span.

Mimi wants badly to play the drums . As I prepare dinner in the kitchen, I hear a chorus of boos as Mimi gets kicked off of the stage. The game of rock is ruthless

Thanksgiving 2009 bloggermania

I have to admit, I have gleened so much inspiration from some dedicated and incredibly creative bloggers.
This Thanksgiving, my computer(that is temporarily in my kitchen) was aglow with images and recipes, decorating tips and beautiful images of foreign destinations for the holidays.

Jie Jie introduced me to this amazing weekly webzine, this is a feast for the eye. I don't attempt any of these things at home. I just admire from afar.

The Luxirare creator features fasion, cuisine and all around coolness.Thanksgiving dinner is worth checking out.

Pucca and ring ring

One of Mimi's favorite shows is Pucca.

I have to say, after living through some pretty lame kids shows(exception, Yo Gabba Gabba), I think that Pucca is hilarious.
During Thanksgiving break, I would wander upstairs and find Mimi and Jie Jie, in my bed covered in blankets, watching Pucca with glee.
Take that, you twin guys on the cruise ship(lame).

doggie kitty smackdown

Jie Jie came home withe her babyDjango in tow. Django went through a period of adjustment where he would just hang out in the shower.

Then out he came, sleeping on the dining room table, sticking his giant hands in the butter and trying to watch people use the bathroom.
Poor Zelda didn't stand a chance. Django has well...the reflexes of a jungle cat, Zelda has all chins and rolls of blub. Zelda loved every minute of it.

Zelda has gone into a deep depression since Django has left. One of the photos is of my nephew Bob protecting himself from Zelda.
Mimi took all of these photos.

Thanksgiving 2009 continued

Terry fancies himself a food photographer, I beg to differ.

As anyone can see,Mimi was completely finished with entertaining the crowd.
